🪴 Cultivation of Dendrobium bensoniae

1. Light

  • Bright, indirect light; some direct morning sun is good.

  • Similar light to Cattleya or Dendrobium nobile types.

2. Temperature

  • Intermediate to warm growing.

    • Day: 20–30°C (68–86°F)

    • Night: 10–18°C (50–64°F)

  • Can tolerate cooler nights if kept dry.

3. Humidity

  • 50–80% humidity.

  • Good air circulation is essential to prevent rot and fungal issues.

4. Watering

  • During growing season (spring/summer):

    • Water thoroughly and regularly.

  • During dormancy (late autumn/winter):

    • Reduce watering significantly.

    • Keep slightly dry but don’t let pseudobulbs shrivel.

5. Fertilizer

  • Use balanced orchid fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20), half strength.

    • Weekly in active growth.

    • Stop feeding during dormancy.

6. Potting

  • Mount on bark or grow in a well-draining orchid mix:

    • Medium-fine bark

    • Charcoal

    • Perlite

  • Repot every 2–3 years, ideally after flowering.

🌱 Dormancy Tips

Like many Dendrobiums, bensoniae benefits from a cool, dry rest period during winter to encourage blooming in spring.
