Found in Sulawesi [Celebes] in lower montane forests on fallen tree trunks at elevations around 1200 meters as a large sized, cool growing epiphyte, lithophyte or terrestrial with close set, cylindric, compressed, longitudinally sulcate, yellow green pseudobulbs carrying 2, erect-spreading, lanceolate-elliptic, acute, coriaceous, plicate, 7 nerved, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on a bare, terete, 18" [40 cm] long, densely many flowered, held in a cylindrical form inflorescence and carry flowers that smell of fresh cut ginger root.
