❄️ Winter Care for Pleione Orchids

After flowering and as temperatures cool, Pleione enters dormancy:
Leaf Drop is Normal
Leaves will yellow and fall off—this is a natural part of the dormancy cycle.
Stop Watering
Once leaves have dropped, stop watering completely to prevent bulb rot.
Keep bulbs dry in a cool (5–10°C / 40–50°F), well-ventilated place—like a windowsill, unheated room, or cold frame.
No Feeding
Do not fertilize during dormancy.
Monitor Occasionally

Check once a month for signs of rot or mold. If healthy, bulbs will remain firm.

🌱 How to Repot Pleione (Late Winter / Early Spring)

Repot just before new growth starts—typically late February to March:
Prepare the Pot & Medium
Use a shallow pot with drainage holes.
Recommended mix: 2 parts sphagnum moss, 1 part fine bark, and 1 part perlite (light, airy, and moisture-retentive).
Place Bulbs Correctly
Set bulbs just above the surface with roots down and growing tip (new shoot) facing up.
Don’t bury them completely—keep the top of the bulb exposed.
Spacing
You can plant several bulbs in one pot, spaced slightly apart for air circulation.
First Watering
Wait to water until new roots are visible or the shoot is 1–2 cm tall. Start with light misting, then increase watering gradually as growth progresses.
Light & Temperature
Keep in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun during early growth stages.
Ideal temps: 10–20°C (50–68°F).
